FAQ

  • What is the best way to store my artisan sourdough bread?
You can store your high hydration bread at room temperature in a bread box, in a muslin bag (you can buy one from us soon), or in a paper bag loosely covered on your kitchen counter. Stored this way the bread will be great for two days. After that, it's best to reheat it in the toaster if you prefer to slice it or in the oven at 300 F for around 10 min. You can spray it with a little bit of water before you put it in the oven. Even when the bread has seen its best days, you can do many things with it. We can give you some tips, on how you can get creative with some stale bread in case this happens.
  • Can I freeze my bread?
Yes, you can freeze your bread! The fresher you freeze it, the better the quality and texture will be when you are ready to eat it. When you freeze it the right way, you can easily keep it in the freezer for up to 3 months. There are several ways to prepare your bread for the freezer. You can wrap it in aluminum foil or in a double layer of plastic foil and put it in a resealable freezer bag. Try to get as much air out as possible. When it comes time to eat your bread, thaw the wrapped bread directly on the counter still in its bag. When it comes to room temperature, the loaf will reabsorb any water that collects inside the plastic, restoring its original texture. If the crust seems a little soft after thawing and unwrapping, you can restore its crunch by heating it in the oven for about 10 minutes at 300 degrees F. If you haven't planned on thawing your bread and want to eat it you can still have your bread in a relatively short time. How to Heat from Frozen? In case you wrapped it in aluminum foil: Bring to room temperature (1-2 hours), and place it in a 300 F oven with the aluminum foil still on. The time the loaf takes to heat through will vary. I would recommend giving it around 20 minutes. Take the foil off for the last 10 minutes to crisp the crust. In case you wrapped it in plastic foil: Take it out of the freezer ideally at the evening before you want to eat it an let it thaw in the plastic at room temperature. In the morning, take off the plastic foil and put the bread in the oven at 300 degrees F for about 10 - 15 minutes in case the crust has softened to crisp it up. Preslicing the loaf before freezing is another great way to have a quick toasted slice of bread! You can portion it in small freezer bags, so you can easily take out your portion. Please make sure to get as much air out as possible. The plastic bags can be re-used several times. Put frozen bread slices directly in the toaster, adding an extra minute or two to accommodate the colder temperature. Use the defroster setting on your toaster if it has one.
